lhabela is an island off the coast of São Paulo state. It's a very popular vacation destination for locals (Rebecca's family has been going there for many years), so it's well-developed with many nice hotels and Airbnbs, as well as restaurants and boutique stores. The real draws are its beaches, nature hikes, and amazing ocean views. Expect tropical, but not extremely hot weather in October (around 80°F throughout the day). From São Paulo city (where the airport is), it's a 3 hr drive + 30 min ferry to Ilhabela. (The ferry runs 24/7—every 30 min during the day and every hour at night.)

The best airport to fly to/from from the U.S. is Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) in São Paulo city. Generally, you can find a direct or one-stop round trip itinerary for $700 or less if you book between now and July 2025. Use tools like Google Flights and Hopper to set up alerts on prices for the desired itinerary. We recommend a departure time no earlier than the late afternoon of Sunday 10/12 to give ample buffer for traveling between the wedding location (Ilhabela) and the airport, which takes ~4 hours if there’s no line for the ferry. If you need help with itineraries/places to travel in addition to São Paulo before or after the wedding, Rebecca is happy to send a few recommendations. Here are some options to consider: Rio de Janeiro (~45 min flight or 6hr drive from São Paulo city) Amazon Rainforest (via flight into Manaus) Iguazu Falls (world’s largest waterfall system) Buenos Aires Paraty and Angra dos Reis (coastline between Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro)
