In the fall of 2017, Emma arrived at her new job at Pioneer Charter School of Science II. As she was introduced to the rest of the staff in the weekly staff meeting (she was hired after the school year began), her eyes scanned the room to take in who she would be working with. While smiling and giving a small wave, her eyes landed on Mr. Milliken (although she didn't know his name yet), and she thought he was cute. Little did she know that Mr. Milliken thought so too. Over the next few months, Emma and Carter had many conversations while at school, and Carter even picked her name out of a hat for that year's Secret Santa gift exchange. And yes, she still has the scarf and Starbucks mug. Four months later, Carter asked Emma on their first date. She managed to keep her cool but was bursting on the inside as she said yes. From then on, they were together. And they are thrilled to stay together for the rest of their lives.
