Carter and Camille first met in 2011 at Carter's locker during 7th grade when he was giving out Jolly Ranchers to fellow classmates. Carter was new to Sperreng Middle School, and Camille thought that he was just a new nerdy kid, but she couldn't say no to a blue Jolly Rancher. Over the next year they became better friends and navigated the minefield of other middle school crushes. It became clear throughout 8th grade that there were more feelings between the two than simply being good friends. The first move was made when Carter nervously stammered through asking Camille to 8th grade formal after lunch one spring day in 2013. The two kept each other at an arms length apart whether it be on the dance floor or when deciding if they were ready to officially start dating for the rest of the school year. Then came July 4th, 2013 when Carter finally asked Camille to be his girlfriend...over snapchat. Carter was at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota when he had his cousin, Molly, write in the sand "Will you be my girlfriend?" for him to send a picture of over snapchat. After confirming that Carter wasn't joking, Camille responded "Yes loser." From there, the rest is history.
