Our Story, as told by Carter

Proof that the old adage "Never date your coworkers" isn't true, Anna and I first met working together at the Harold B Lee Library on BYU Campus. Through long night shifts at the music and dance desk, we learned how much we had in common: we both loved music, movies and academic study. After a few months, I decided to get courageous and ask her out on a date to go see Broadway actor Santino Fontana. At least, I thought I was being courageous. I conveniently forgot to mention to Anna this was a date, in case I was misreading signals. I did the same thing too on the next "date" I asked her out on. Eventually, she got fed up with my hedging, and took matters into her own hands, inviting me to get ice cream and very clearly affirming that we were going on a date. The rest from there is history. We started officially going out a couple weeks later, and have stuck together for the last two and a half years, through thick and thin. Our relationship has been filled with laughter, tears, and plenty of gelato, and I wouldn't trade any of it for the world. Anna is the most beautiful, smart and caring person I've ever met. She's constantly looking for ways to show me her love, whether its by bringing me a little treat after a long week, or sitting through an opera performance I know she would never go to on her own. I'm so excited to get to marry her, and so grateful you all are celebrating with us!

Our Story, as told by Anna

In June of 2023 I started working a lot of hours at the library with Carter. Unsurprisingly, university libraries aren't particularly hopping places in the middle of summer; Carter and I spent a *lot* of time chatting, getting to know each other, and creating inside jokes. A few months later, Carter had been lingering around our work desk, talking to our coworker, filling up his water bottle, and generally loitering. As he was about to leave he told me he had an extra ticket to a concert and "couldn't think of anyone else who would want to go." I very quickly said yes, mostly because I really wanted to see the performer, and then promptly started freaking out about whether this counted as a date or not. The concert went well except that I walked away from it still having zero answers. A few weeks later, Carter pulled the same stunt again, and this time I was beginning to catch on. I tried my best to be flirty and date-y at the next concert but it all flew over his head. I finally knew I had to gather the courage to reciprocate more obviously, and the next time we were going out I confirmed "great, it's a date." And the rest is history:) Carter is one of the funniest people I know and makes me laugh every single day. He's smart, caring, and dedicated. He also made me the best pasta I've ever had and I'm still thinking about it weeks later. He makes every single day better and I can't wait to marry him:) We are so grateful and excited for you all to celebrate with us!
