It all started because a Fiji needed a formal date. Carson's best friend, groomsman, and roommate at the time, Joe Jalette, was dating Melissa's friend and roommate at the time. The two were set up as each other's date's to the formal. While on formal, Carson and Melissa had the best weekend together but nothing came of the two once back at college. Both graduated from the University of Missouri in 2019, Carson moved back home to St Louis and Melissa moved back home to Kansas City. It wasn't until March/May 2020 that Carson moved to Kansas City to open his office with work. Melissa grew up in Lee's Summit, MO, and Carson's first Edward Jones office was just three exits from where she was living. Carson announced his statewide move via an Instagram story, showcasing his new 816 phone number. It was then that Melissa made her move by swiping up and replying... with a winky face emoji. They scheduled their first date over Margaritas and Mexican food at Melissa's favorite, La Fuente. And the rest was history.
