A Year of Sydney and Carsen!
At the 2024 regional convention, Carsen saw Sydney across the room on Friday. Her red skirt made her stand out in the crowd. At first look, he was in awe, star-struck if you will. Sydney was off in her own world with her friends, enjoying the association. She wouldn’t meet Carsen till Saturday afternoon, at the baptism pool. Throughout Friday, Carsen kept seeing her. She soon became known as “Ketchup”, a code name given by Carsen’s sister, Sydnee. That night, Carsen went to the family’s Airbnb and prayed for an opportunity to talk to her, to Ketchup. Soon Saturday afternoon came around. Sydney had an assignment down near the baptism pool for first aid. All the attendants, their wives, and some of their families were down there to clap for the baptismal candidates. Sydney was standing next to her friend, Sophie, when all of a sudden a beautiful, brown-haired girl came towards her. “I love your skirt!” She tells Sydney, “What’s your name?” Shocked and slightly confused, Sydney introduces herself and asks for the girl’s name. “I’m Sydnee. This is my husband Jordan and my brother Carsen.” As the conversation ended, Sydney and Sophie looked at each other, Sophie saying that Carsen was definitely into Sydney. She laughed, slightly pausing…he couldn’t be into her, right? But little did she know, she had just met the love of her life, her best friend. The convention quickly ended on Sunday afternoon. Sydney had seen Carsen a few times and wanted to speak to him, but she didn’t know how, so instead she went to the attendant’s desk to be with her friend. However, when she got there, Carsen was there as well, on the opposite side of the table. ‘Wow!’ was all she could think. ‘Maybe there would be an opportunity to talk to him after all.’ Carsen spotted her and quickly walked over to her and Sophie. A conversation was started, and soon it was just him and Sydney talking. He smooth-talked his way into getting her number, offering to get a group together to go surfing next time she came down. From that day on, Carsen and Sydney talked every day.
From their first date at the Fremont Theater to the million questions they would ask each other, they knew that they had found the one. They always made sure to have coffee in the morning together, whether in person or on the phone. This was Sydney’s favorite part of the day. On the nights they’d play games together, they would see how each dealt with moments that could easily make anyone angry. Getting to have these moments made the time apart so much easier. Every time they would get to visit each other, it was a new adventure! From LDC projects to assemblies to the best cabin trips to the wonderful chill weekends where they would watch movies for hours on end. From their first “I love you” to their first kiss to the ungodly amount of paper cranes Sydney would make. From the times that the other’s family felt like their own, they knew this was it. There was no one else for them. On September 12, 2025, they got engaged. Carsen took her to Montana De Oro, somewhere they had both been once, but it held the best memories. With a paper crane in Sydney’s hand and down on one knee, he asked the question that would change their lives forever, “Will you marry me?”
