When Melissa Carroll and Nathan (“Nate”) Young first met, they quickly realized they shared two great loves: libraries and cookbooks. Both work for the San Antonio Public Library, and their first casual conversation about recipes and culinary history soon gave way to longer talks about life, literature, and a shared dream of one day opening a bookstore devoted to cookbooks. Their first date took place at Central Market, where they wandered the aisles comparing favorite ingredients and imagining the meals they might cook together. Ms. Carroll, a librarian, has built her career around connecting people to stories. Mr. Young, a former chef who spent years cooking in high-end restaurants in San Antonio and Dallas, now channels his creativity into serving library patrons rather than plated entrées. The couple were married on October 14, 2025, in an intimate courthouse ceremony in Garland, Texas, attended by their parents and Ms. Carroll’s brother. Afterward, they honeymooned in New York City, where they made a beeline for Kitchen Arts & Letters. A celebration with friends and extended family is planned for the near future.
