"I don't think we'll need this app anymore" was the last message Brian sent on Tinder after they exchanged numbers and agreed to meet. After two days of intense conversations, varying from sports to technology, to political interests Brian asked Ashley on a date. Brian being the man he is, did not presume he knew but instead asked her what she was interested in doing. Ashley, always looking to test courters, responded with bouldering—because this surely would gauge his ability to “keep up”. Brian, never showing all his cards planned on taking Ashley to barbecue at the amazing John Browns had the date gone well. It was the Sunday after they initially swiped right, the two of them met at Brooklyn Boulders and spent hours climbing and chatting–the date must have gone well because Brian ultimately decided to take Ashley to John Browns. That first date set the tone of their relationship, a month and a half after their first date they went on their first snowboarding vacation together in Killington, VT, this is where Brian officially asked Ashley to be his girlfriend. They moved through life seamlessly after that, within just a few months they decided to move in together, they took on a major construction project and sold a property together. Despite Ashley being a Yankees fan, and Brian a Red Sox, they were able to overlook their differences and recognized the genuine joy they felt from being together. Their love of traveling and experiencing new things only solidified those feelings. That love took them to multiple US locations, Cuba, Mexico, France, and Canada. They have challenged each other to be better and supported each other when times got tough. Ashley and Brian have proven that they’re building a relationship meant to last.
Brian and Ashley booked a trip to Whistler, BC to celebrate two years of dating. Since the trip was an anniversary trip, Ashley and Brian each had gifts for one another. Ashley had ordered his gift online, unfortunately FedEx lost the gift forcing Ashley to scramble for a different present the night before their flight. When Ashley brought home the gift bag, Brian begged her to allow him to open it. Ashley, pragmatic as always, refused, unless of course she could open her present. After some deliberation, Brian admitted that her present couldn't be given to her because it was in Whistler. He finally capitulated, admitting that he'd booked a sports photographer to get action shots of them snowboarding. During their time in Canada, Whistler received over six feet of snow. On their anniversary, Ashley and Brian decided to get in a few runs before they met the sports photographer. The runs were untouched fresh powder, needless to say it was quite the warm up for a perfect day. When Ashley and Brian met the photographer he pointed out a run which was pretty much a 75 degree incline and asked them if they could handle it, Brian was enthusiastic in his response of yes. Ashley, more reserved, said let's work up to it. After multiple runs they neared the end of the day and the photographer brought up the run again, Ashley, more willing, said "Sure , let's do it." They unstrapped, hopped over a fence, and began hiking to the run. Once there the photographer asked Ashley and Brian if they had dogs. Little did Ashley know that was the photographers "code word" to Brian that he was in position for Brian to pop the question. It was then that Brian told Ashley to close her eyes. When she opened them, there he was on his knee asking for her to marry him. It was cold, snowing and under normal circumstances all Ashley would think about is how cold she was, but at that point all that mattered was how much she loved him and how ready she was to start a new story. The Beginning.
