On August 14th, 2021, after transferring to Tennessee Tech, I got invited by a friend that I grew up with to play sand volleyball. Amongst all the males there, I caught Mitchell's eye by being goofy and competitive during the game. After the game, Mitchell asked me for my number and asked me to go get coffee. The next day, August 15th, Mitchell and I went to church, then went and got coffee and talked about our lives. After coffee we went and shot skeet and then went frog gigging. Somehow during this day, I never thought of it as an actual date, while Mitchell knew it was a date. The next 3 months we hung out every day and even went to my aunt and uncles house, just as friends. One day I told Mitchell that I don't like him more than a friend. He then did not speak to me for the next 6 months. Being in the same friend group, we still had to see each other all the time. During Christmas break of 2022, I told my friend, Meredith that I think I like Mitchell now. In January, while playing a game where I had headphones on and I had to make a phone call and read lips to talk, Meredith revealed to the entire friend group that I told her I liked Mitchell. A few weekends later, our friends were having a get-together, and nobody was available to go except for Mitchell and I. Mitchell picked me up and then we walked to this party together just as friends. On our walk home through much conversation, we realized we wanted to be more than friends. The next day we went hiking and discussed all of our feelings and from that moment we decided to start dating. A month later, Mitchell asked me to be his girlfriend, and the rest is history! lol not. After this, we endured many trials, hard times, and deep discussions. It wasn't easy. But through much prayer and the Lord working in both of our lives, WE ARE GETTING MARRIED!
Yeah, that first part of her story is true; the rest is nerfed so much! She leaves out the fact that during those 3 months of being just friends, she would constantly lead me on! She had a habit of loving attention; she looooooooved leading people on. After 3 months of enduring that, I finally laid it out and asked her point blank to stop fooling around and tell me how she feels, and she being the empathetic person she is (that is a joke of course) told me how much she didn't want to be with me. So yeah, I stopped talking to her for 6 months, except when I needed her to buy me a motorcycle lol. But then by next year, I apparently got sexy or something, because she started liking me. And yeah, we had a lot of long talks after that night we went to the party together, and after many people telling us we should NOT date, we, being stubborn individuals, started dating. 3 years later, and I wouldn't have had it happen any other way. Our love story is so imperfect, and that is just fantastic, because we are two of the most imperfect people there are. In our friend groups Carrington and I individually both had reputations that led people to believe we'd never end up with anyone, and yet by denying ourselves before Christ and by turning to Him in prayer whenever we have issues, we are now stronger in love and relationship than I ever thought I'd be with another person. I love you Carrington Capps!
