Robert grew up in New York and Carrie grew up in Pennsylvania. Carrie moved to Florida in 2013 to go to the Great Commission Bible Institute and returned in 2015 to live long term. Robert came to Florida in 2017 to attend college, during his first 6 months he became friends with one of Carrie's friends who brought him to Carrie's brothers home. It was there that they met in June of 2017. There were instant sparks!
Robert and I had talked about getting married and discussed plans of where and when well in advance to us getting engaged. But I stayed out of the engagement ring buying process which meant I didn't know for sure if he even had the ring yet. That was until the day he proposed, it was Mother's Day and I came out of church to find a huddle of our closest friends around Rob's car, I knew for sure then that he had the ring and that it was in the car. I spent the remainder of the day in agony due to my insane levels of curiosity. It wasn't until after 7 in the evening while driving back to Sebring after having visited my parents in Fort Myers that I finally brought up the "elephant in the room". Of course he denied it and I pried even more until finally we sat in the car in silence, I being sure it was in the car and him continuing to insist it was not. Finally upon arriving back in Sebring he insisted on coming over to my apartment, I attempted to decline feeling frustrated that I hadn't received the affirmation of the location of the ring! He insisted that if he came over I "wouldn't be disappointed". I allowed it. He arrived and attempted to act normal, something I simply couldn't do at this point. Finally after several minutes he asked me "Do you remember what you texted me last night?" I said yes. He continued "You said you saw an old cranky couple and thought to yourself that you wanted to be old and cranky with me. Did you really mean that?" I said that I of course meant it. He smiled, pulled something from his pocket, got down on one knee and said "Well then, Carrie Elizabeth Russell..will you marry me?" I froze. Then after coming back to life I said yes!
