For those who don't know our story, Stephen and I met and became friends in our freshman year of high school, but it wasn't until 7 years later that Mother Nature stepped in and brought us together. It was our senior year of college. I had a house party over winter break while my mom was on vacation. There was a snow storm overnight, so the next morning we dragged ourselves outside to try and maneuver the cars out of the 6 inches of snow, too lazy and tired to shovel (after an epic snowball fight, of course). But just as soon as everyone had left, I heard a scraping noise outside. Stephen had returned with a shovel in hand to rescue me from an afternoon of hungover clean up. He came to the door, with my favorite coffee in hand, asking for a date in return. And the rest is history. Four and a half years later, Stephen worked with my mom to put together quite the scheme for our engagement. My mom "won" a hot air balloon ride, but was too afraid of heights to go. She asked if we wanted to enjoy it in her place. I had to beg Stephen to agree. Little did I know.... But in steps Mother Nature with a plot of her own to ruin all of Stephen's hard work - Tropical Storm Philippe. Stephen took charge to try and re-arrange the plans, and after several secretive phone calls and very suspicious behavior, the hot air balloon ride was suddenly pushed up a day. October 28 was a beautiful, crisp fall day. Perfect for a sunrise hot air balloon ride, and perfect for a not-so-surprising proposal. (But I really love him for trying!) Now, as our wedding day approaches, we could not be more excited to celebrate the next step in our journey with each of you. Here's to hoping that the third time is the charm, and Mother Nature blesses us with sunshine!
