A Chinese Wedding Tea Ceremony is a formal occasion where the bride and groom show respect and gratitude to their parents and elders by serving them tea. In return, the couple receives blessings, gifts, and advice for their new life together.
Once the groom is allowed to see the bride after the door games, the tea ceremony will start. The groom and bride will kneel and serve the tea to the elders- starting with the parents, in-laws, and family elders in order of their seniority. Once each person has been served, they will give the couple red envelope. The red envelope usually holds money for the newlyweds. The red envelopes symbolize wealth and good fortune for the couple. Once the elder hands the couple the envelope, they can offer words of wisdom, advice, and congratulations !
