T. Tyler Potterfield Bridge - Pedestrian friendly bridge which provides amazing views of the James River and downtown skyline. It can be accessed from either side of the River but we recommend the walk from Brown's Island. This is where Earl and Carolyn were married. The Buttermilk Trail - If you are looking for an escape from the city sidewalks check out some of the trails in the city's backyard. They can be as easy or as challenging as you would like and include plenty of shade. A favorite of Carolyn and Leroy when they lived in Manchester. Raft the James River - For several years Earl and Carolyn have gathered a group of friends and family and rafted down the James River. The trip is based on the water level but the guides make it fun either way. We recommend Riverside Outfitters.
We love a little competition! We recommend any of the arcade and game bars in Scott's Addition. You will find mini bowling, shuffle board, pop a shot and ping pong to name a few. Slingshot Social Game Club, Circuit, Tang & Biscuit and Bingo Beer Co are all winners!
Church Hill is a historic neighborhood with gas lit cobblestone streets, celebrated reasturants and notable landmarks. Visit one of the many restaurants, historic St. John's Church where Patrick Henry gave his speech 'Give me Liberty or give me death' followed by a visit to Libby Hill Park for which its view gave Richmond its nickname, the River City
Between street murals, galleries, the VMFA and the Institute for Contemporary Art you will see the creative culture everywhere. Street Art - You can find 150+ murals and street art throughout downtown Richmond as you explore. We are a city that thinks of its city as a canvas for creativity. Which is your favorite? Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) - While admission to the museum is free be sure to take a stroll through the outdoor sculpture garden and enjoy works such as Dale Chihuly’s Red Reeds.
