How We Met

Riley and I met, like any good millennial couple, on a dating app (Bumble). In the summer of 2017, I moved from Cary, NC to Nashville, TN. My best friend, Rachel, recommended I try Bumble as a way to meet new people. Overcoming my initial skepticism, I took her advice. Riley and I matched soon after and began talking. Our first date was on August 8, 2017 at a local restaurant, Bar Taco. While we were both a little anxious (neither of us had met someone on an app before), our first date was incredible. I remember when we first started dating, trying to think of clever ways to tell people how we met. I soon discovered that, like us, more and more couples are meeting on dating apps. Riley and I have been together since our first date and, as cliché as it sounds, the rest is history!

The Proposal

On July 13, 2019, Riley got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife!!! That was the easiest question I have ever answered. The morning of our proposal started off like any other Saturday. Riley went to play frisbee golf with his best friend and I stayed back to get ready for the day. We planned to take our dog, Dakota, to a dog park and then get sushi for dinner. After Riley finished playing frisbee golf, he called and asked me to come over to his parent's house. When I pulled up, they were doing what they always do on Saturdays: cleaning, yard work, washing the cars, etc. I remember thinking, "Oh yeah, he's not proposing today." Boy, was I wrong! As we were leaving the dog park and heading to dinner; Riley said, "Hey babe, we should probably take Dakota to use the bathroom so she doesn't go at the restaurant." To which I responded, "Oh yes, great idea! Let's do that." Shortly after, we pulled into Harlinsdale Farm where a polo match was underway. I was still completely oblivious as to what was about to happen. We parked, took Dakota to the bathroom, and started walking back to the car (or so I thought). Next thing I knew, there was a picnic beautifully set up on the grass. I immediately started crying when I realized what was about to happen. Riley got down on one knee and I screamed, "YES"!!! To say that Riley thought of everything, would be an understatement. He had photographers, videographers, our two best friends, a handwritten note and champagne. He even planned a surprise party for our closest friends and family to celebrate with us. My parents, brother, and sister-in-law drove nine hours that day to be there; because Riley knew how important that was to me. I have never cried so many happy tears in my life!
