I first met Caroline on the first day of our Texas Tech MBA classes before starting medical school in Lubbock. She was sitting in a middle row with a splint on her finger. I knew asking her what happened to her finger would be the perfect opener and boy was I mistaken. She shut me down so fast, and if you ask Caroline to this day, it was because of the Sperry’s. Not to be discouraged, in the next class, I made certain to sit next to her. Lo and behold we were assigned those seats for the remainder of the semester and “forced” to work together on projects for the remainder of the semester.   Then was the transition from our MBA to Medical school. It was a grueling year, especially the start of the year starting in anatomy. So many unknowns, self doubt and learning how to be adult learners. Trying to have a personal life during this time was difficult as both of us were shell shocked and really trying to focus on supporting each other as friends during this major time of emotional, personal and intellectual insecurity. However, I knew Caroline was special and I knew life would be better with her in it. I must have been doing something right because in September, Caroline invited me to be her wedding date to Scott & Allison's wedding. It was there where we officially considered "dating". It has been nearly 6 years since then. We have gone through the couple’s match process together and have since left Lubbock, Texas for Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. These years have been filled with challenges and triumphs. We matched into our dream specialties at excellent programs. We have facilitated achievement of each others goals. We have lost family close to us, we have lost patients, we have gained friendships and most importantly we have prioritized each other through it all. Thank you for being part of our big day!
