• Caroline's favorite is the Leopold http://www.leopoldmuseum.org/ because it’s manageable size-wise – I can only take about an hour of art at a time…it has the best selection of Schiele and also a good selection of Klimt. The Leopold is in the Museum Quarter (MuseumsQuartier) and is a lovely square of outdoor space, bars, restaurants, etc. if the weather is good it’s really quite nice. • Albertina – https://www.albertina.at/en similar to the Leopold in terms of tolerance of art, wider variety of artists including Kandinsky, Chagall, Monet, Picasso etc. • Kunsthistorisches Museum (this translates to Art History Museum) https://www.khm.at/en/ It’s insanely big and has a huge variety but mainly known for the largest collection of Bruegels. This is also part of the MuseumsQuartier.
A 10 minute walk from the hotel is the Naschmarkt http://www.naschmarkt-vienna.com/ which is similar to a Turkish bazaar / outdoor food market. Exceptionally good and cheap Greek/Indian/Turkish food served on the street or small open-air restaurants. Café & Restaurant Motto am Fluss – good drink or lunch/dinner spot on the water if weather is good as it's on the water http://www.mottoamfluss.at/en/welcome/ Demel - Just to be transported back in time it’s worth stopping in. also Rien is good for traditional breakfast and people watching. https://www.demel.com/en https://www.rien.at/
St. Stephens Cathedral (Stephansdom) – center of the pedestrian-only streets, great starting off point for walking around / shopping / etc in city-central. Fun fact: Tea house / brunch spot near Stephansdom is Haas&Haas – highly recommend even if just shopping for good teas/small gifts. Palace / Park: Belvedere Palace – walking distance from hotel (unlike the larger Schönbrunn Palace), it was the summer residence of the royal family and the gardens / Palace is really beautiful. Also has a number of Klimt paintings like “the kiss”. http://www.ilovejourneys.com/belvedere-palace-vienna/
