Caroline & Matt met how any modern-day couple do... at a swing dance. (Ok, maybe this the is proof that we actually both belong in a different time period.) Matt was leading his band 504 Supreme, and Caroline, a new jazz fanatic and swing dancer, was led over to the stage by their mutual friend Doug. Caroline was struck by the crazy guy with a killer band, and to her delight, Matt let her sing a pitchy version of "All of Me" with the band. The rest, as they say, is history.
After about a year of performing together and getting to know each other as colleagues, a switch flipped. We each saw that music was one of the most important things in both our lives... and from that mutual passion, this bond was built of a great respect for one another, a deep understanding of each other, and huge amounts of hilarious fun and wild adventures. We have been riding the crazy wave of this life as partners in music and love ever since!
Caroline was driving home after gallivanting in New Orleans for a few weeks and decided to stop by Asheville to see the show Matt was playing that evening. Caroline sat in with the band for a few tunes, and a grand time was had by all the happy local hippie couples and young tourists sipping delicious fancy cocktails in a magical little spot called Antidote. When the end of the last set came around, Matt requested to the band leader that we do La Vie En Rose, a song we frequently perform with our bands. After Caroline sang the first verse, Matt walked up beside her and began talking to the crowd about how he would propose to her someday. Now, this might have been taken as a sign for what was about to happen--- however, if you know us and have seen our shows, you'll recall that talk of a proposal has been part of our witty banter for quite some time now. Therefore, an oblivious Caroline brushed off Matt's stumbling marriage talk as banter and hushed him when it was time to sing the last verse of the song together in harmony. "Give your heart and soul to me, and life will always be, La Vie En ......" "HANG ON!" Matt yelled out to the band before the last chord, as he ran over to his music stand, pulled a little box out from under his trumpet mute, ran back over and knelt before Caroline. The room of hippies gasped in perfect unison. After a she found her breath again, and trying not to cry... Caroline said YES, and the CROWD WENT WILD! Cue the last note of the song! Cue the celebratory Shim Sham dance! Cue the rest of our lives together!!!
