The views might not be as great as the views at King or Pippin, but Jefferson makes some of our favorite wine and it's right up the road from Michie Tavern. Be sure to try the Meritage.
The Tasting Room & Taphouse is situated atop Mount Ida Reserve’s secluded 7,000 acres with panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They are unique in that they have both a vineyard and brewery on site. It is a very large space with lots of outdoor seating, great for large groups and the perfect solution so you don't have to choose between a winery or a brewery.
Local brewery located in the IX Art Park. Nice outdoor seating and good for a larger group. Walk around the park to see some interesting art installations.
Visit Thomas Jefferson's historic home, Monticello. Day passes to explore on your own, or tours available. Visit their website for more information. We recommend a morning tour, lunch right down the mountain at Michie Tavern and then a few vineyards in the afternoon.
Pick your own apples, enjoy some apple cider donuts and hard cider, and enjoy the beautiful view of Charlottesville from on top of the mountain.
Located right on the corner, easy to access, the University of Virginia Lawn and Rotunda are must see spots.
Amazing hike to Humpback Rock with a 180 degree view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. About a 35 minute hike to the top (moderately steep), 25 minutes back down to the car park. The drive from downtown is about 45 minutes. Take 64-West to Afton Mountain until reaching Skyline Drive. 20 minutes on Skyline Drive and Humpback Rock Hike Car Park will be to your left. Google maps will take you to the visitor center but keep going about another minute and the car park will be on your left.
