Things To Do

Darren has spent a year living in Krakow learning Polish in 2019-2020. We visited Krakow together in Summer 2024 when Darren showed Caroline some of his favorite spots. Below are our recommendations.
Wieliczka Salt Mine

Wieliczka Salt Mine

10 Daniłowicza, Wieliczka, Województwo małopolskie 32-020, Poland

Few hundred meters underground, a salt mine like no other. It's 30mins outside of Krakow. Easily accessible by bus or uber. There is English tour available booked in advance. There are few chambers and ballrooms underground with salt carved walls and chandeliers. We had our eyes on having a wedding in the salt mine previously. Unfortunately, due to renovation, we won't be able to host a summer wedding in the salt mine. But we hope to do a fun excursion to the salt mine with our guests when we can descend using the miner's elevators and find "treasure".

Auschwitz II-Birkenau

Auschwitz II-Birkenau

12 Ofiar Faszyzmu, Brzezinka, Województwo małopolskie 32-600, Poland

Auschwitz is a must to visit in Caroline's opinion. After studying so many years of European history in high school and college, she was very excited to go visit Aushwitz. Darren was initially very against it. He put it - "why do you want to put a cloud of darkness over an otherwise perfect day?" The tour turned out to be much better than Darren imagined. Visiting Auschwitz in the summer is a better choice than visiting in the dark, cold Polish winter. A history not to forget! There are many tours you can book online. They go every day via small vans. Drivers will pick you up in your location. The entire trip takes roughly from 7am pick up to 2pm drop off.

Krakow Old Town Walking Tour

Kraków, Poland

We joined a free walking tour around old town Krakow. It's a good way to hit the major tourist spots. You pay a tip (as much as you wish) at the end of the tour. The tour company we joined has an "yellow umbrella" as a sign to meet at the "Barbican" - the old gate into the city.

Zakrzówek Park

Zakrzówek Park

Wyłom, Kraków, Województwo małopolskie 30-373, Poland

About twenty minutes by car outside the old town Krakow, there are the five enclosed starry shape swimming pools. It's a unique experience to swim here. Don't jump!

HEVRE | Bar & Restaurant

HEVRE | Bar & Restaurant

18 Beera Meiselsa, Kraków, Województwo małopolskie 31-058, Poland

A former synagogue that has now been transformed into the bar & kitchen. It's in the Kazimierz, the old Jewish quarter.

Chimera

Chimera

3 Świętej Anny, Kraków, Województwo małopolskie 31-008, Poland

Chimera is a local cafeteria/salad bar. It's located in an airy, very floral garden with upstairs and downstairs. You pick 3-4 items from the bar and pay at the checkout. Lots of vegetarian selections. It's one of the places you can eat a very well prepared, healthy meal for under 10 USD per person. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
