If you're staying at Hotel Monaco or the Renaissance, you're in the heart of Old City. You will be steps away from Independence Hall, where both the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were debated and signed—so it’s often called the birthplace of American democracy. There is a guided tour that takes you through the Assembly Room, where George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and other founding figures once gathered. We have taken the tour with visiting friends, and would recommend, especially for history buffs! Free timed-entry tickets are required, so we recommend reserving ahead if it’s on your list.
If you’re looking for a classic Philly food experience, Reading Terminal Market is a great spot to visit! We love taking friends here when they visit the city. It’s packed with amazing local vendors; grab a fresh donut from Beiler’s, try a famous roast pork sandwich, or wander around sampling everything from soft pretzels to cheesesteaks. It’s indoors, super walkable, and a perfect stop to eat, explore, and get a little taste of Philly’s food scene.
If you’re looking for a way to spend the morning before the wedding, we recommend exploring Rittenhouse Square. Every Saturday, including wedding weekend, the square hosts a lively farmers market filled with fresh flowers, local produce, baked goods, and Philly-made treats. The surrounding neighborhood is full of boutique shops, cafés, and great spots to grab brunch! Some of our favorite spots for coffee/ pastries: - K'Far Cafe - The Bakeshop on Twentieth - Metropolitan Bakery Brunch spots we've loved: - The Love - Parc - The Continental Other places! - 1-900-ICE-CREAM - The Black Sheep Pub & Restaurant (where we went on our first date!)
Philadelphia is home to some truly incredible museums. There is something for every everybody! Here is a list of some of our favorites: Philadelphia Museum of Art: This is where you will find the ionic steps and Rocky Statue. The museum is also a special place for us because we can see the beautiful building from our doorstep, and we love taking Laney for walks around the grounds. The Barnes Foundation: In our opinion, the Barnes is the most unique museum in the city. It is special not just for its incredible collection of Impressionist and Modern art, but for how it’s displayed. Dr. Albert Barnes arranged the works in unconventional groupings to highlight visual connections between artists, eras, and styles. The Franklin Institute – A hands-on science museum that's great for all ages. The Rodin Museum – An intimate outdoor and indoor museum featuring Auguste Rodin’s sculpture.
We think this is the best place in the city to get a Philly Cheesesteak!
One of our favorite spots to walk around! The Italian Market is full of fresh produce, cheeses, meats, and specialty shops. Great for picking up ingredients for dinner, but also nice for strolling and taking in the neighborhood vibe. It's one of the oldest open-air markets in the country and such a fun Philly experience.
