Train

Metro North Train

Caroline grew up right off Metro North's New Haven line, and now you can experience the joy of MTA for yourself! The Metro North trains are a good cost saving option; they depart from Grand Central station in Manhattan and go both to Pawling and Danbury, where the room blocks are located. Caroline and Aaron do not necessarily recommend taking the train to Pawling. For transit to Danbury: buy a ticket from your start location to the Danbury stop. Take the New Haven line to South Norwalk, CT. Exit the train at the South Norwalk stop and change trains to the Danbury line and take that to the Danbury stop! For transit to Pawling: buy a ticket from your start location to the Pawling stop. Take the Harlem line to Southeast station. Change trains and take the Harlem line with the end destination of Wassaic 2 stops to the Pawling station.

Train

Amtrak

If Caroline and Aaron are traveling from DC to Connecticut, they are taking the Amtrak train. Be sure to BYO wine and cheese snacks (plus cups and wine openers) to take full advantage of not driving. To get to Danbury: take the Amtrak train from your starting location to the Stamford stop. From there, take a Metro North train from the Stamford station to Danbury - for more information, see the Metro North section. Note: all trains in the Northeast corridor should stop at the Stamford stop, so you'll have your pick of Acela or Northeast Regional trains (or Caroline's personal favorite, the Vermonter). Please note: Amtrak and Metro North tickets need to be purchased separately.

Flight

LaGuardia Airport or JFK Airport

New York City is the closest major airport hub. Danbury, CT, is about a 1 hour 30 min drive and Kirby Hill Farms is about a 1 hour 45 min drive from LaGuardia. JFK will add about 15-30 min of additional driving time. All driving times are, of course, traffic dependent. If you truly do not want to rent a car but do need to fly in, you can fly into Newark, NJ, and take an Amtrak train from the Newark International Airport stop to the Stamford station, following the Amtrak/Metro North directions from there. This is a lot of steps though, and Caroline and Aaron do not necessarily recommend it.

Flight

Westchester County Airport

Westchester County Airport (HPN) in White Plains, NY, is certainly a nicer airport to fly into than LaGuardia or JKF, but it is significantly smaller. If you can find a good flight into Westchester (and AA does fly direct from DC!), you'll likely save yourself some hassle and drive time. Westchester County Airport is about a 45 min drive from Danbury and an hour drive from Kirby Hill Farms.
