Joel and Caroline’s paths first crossed at church about three(ish) years ago. Joel had been hired to sing in Good Friday choir service at Caroline’s home church. As the two youngest people in the room, they noticed each other pretty instantly, but no words or introductions were exchanged—just an interesting moment. Fast forward a few months: Joel started working at the church, and some mutual friends began plotting to set them up. The perfect opportunity arrived when the church’s musical theater summer showcase needed someone to run sound. Joel was (by his own account) unqualified for the job, but was “hired” anyway. Caroline was helping with the show, and the stage was set—literally. One day, Joel walked into the rec room, and the camp director—like a rom-com sidekick—shooed the students out, leaving just the two of them. They awkwardly introduced themselves, pretending not to know each other’s names already, and soon after, they were strolling around the church, chatting like old friends. A week later, Joel asked Caroline out on their first date. A few months of dating passed, and he asked her to be his girlfriend. And the rest? Well, that’s the part we get to celebrate now.
