There are so many fun places to explore in the Charlottesville area! We put together a list of favorite restaurants and activities should you have free time throughout the wedding weekend. We categorized the recommendations under UVA-related, outdoors/winery, downtown/restaurants to help guide you in your planning.

The Lawn & the Rotunda (UVA)

If you have time, visit the original grounds of the University of Virginia! Besides being Caroline's undergrad stomping grounds, the Rotunda is a famous architectural and UNESCO world heritage site and it was designed by Thomas Jefferson. If you have time to take a historical tour of UVA, you'll learn all about Thomas Jefferson's vision for his university.

The Market at Bellair (UVA)

Great sandwiches made to order! You may want to order ahead online as this is a popular sandwich shop on the weekends.

Bodo's Bagels (UVA)

1609 University Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22903

Bodo's is a UVA and Charlottesville favorite! Grab your bagels at their location on the UVA Corner for a picnic on the Lawn in front of the Rotunda for the full UVA experience. If you don't have time for a picnic or to see UVA, we'd recommend picking up bagels at their locations on Preston Avenue or Emmett Street to avoid UVA traffic/parking.

Take It Away Sandwich Shop, UVa Corner

Another UVA and Charlottesville favorite, Take It Away is a great grab and go sandwich shop. It can be crowded with UVA students on the weekends, so make sure to allow enough time to order and wait for your sandwich. We recommend adding the special sauce and sprouts to your sandwich!

A Larsen family favorite Italian spot! Make a reservation for Friday night if you are getting in town early, it is popular.

Downtown Mall

The Downtown Mall is a great place to walk around and shop, grab a drink or a bite to eat, and enjoy a historic part of Charlottesville!

King Family Vineyards

King Family Vineyards is ~15 minutes from Tiffin Farm. It has a beautiful lawn and Blue Ridge mountain backdrop. You can bring outside food to picnic on the lawn and enjoy the beautiful weather!

Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards

5022 Plank Road, North Garden, VA 22959

Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards is a popular stop among wineries on Virginia's Monticello Wine trail. Its a great place to have a glass of wine and enjoy the beauty of the mountains near Charlottesville.

If you have never been, we highly recommend visiting Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. It sits atop Monticello mountain has both the beautiful historic home and beautiful grounds. You can take a house tour or walk the grounds and gardens.

Walk into the downtown mall location of Marie Bette Cafe, a Charlottesville classic beloved by both students and townies. It is a French bakery and coffee spot.
