Caroline and Gray have rented out the entire facility, but due to the limited space, only a handful of family members and friends will be able to stay at the resort. We have reached out to those very few people who will be staying at the resort.
Hotels / Airbnb Accommodations: Kirkwood Mountain Resort and South Lake Tahoe are the closest options. Desolation Hope Valley (also called Wylder and/or Sorensons) is a great option for shwanky cabins. Camping: There are tons of camping options around Carson Pass. Caples Lake Campground is immediately across from the resort and is first come, first serve. We will try to throw up some tents there when we roll in for folks looking to stay there. If you have a camper, you are welcome to camp at Caples Lake Resort, but please let Caroline and Gray know so we have an idea of how many people to expect. Gray sent an email about camping to folks with campers. If you have a camper, van, etc and didn't get the email, let us know. A quieter option is Schneider Camp Road (NFR 10N13), also right across from the lake. Lots of camping is available on Blue Lakes Road, about 10 miles from Caples too. If you have questions, just reach out and we can direct you. Don't try to camp at Kirkwood; security hates that.
Reno Tahoe International Airport is the best airport to fly into (about 1.5 hours). Sacramento is the distant second-best option (about 2.5 hours). Uber and Lyft will be very expensive to get from the airport to the lake. A great option to get from the airport to South Lake Tahoe, if you don't want to rent a car is, to utilize the South Tahoe Airporter. This shuttle service regularly goes between the Reno airport and downtown South Lake Tahoe hotels. Unfortunately, we can't provide shuttle service all the way to Caples Lake but if you know of folks driving or renting a car, this is a good option. If you have questions about this or want to find someone to coordinate with, feel free to reach out to Caroline and Gray.
Look funky, look fabulous, wear that thing hanging in your closet that you've been looking for an excuse to wear! We strongly recommend NOT WEARING HEELS as the ground is a mix of rock, woodchips, and dirt. Bring a jacket as it will get chilly when the sun goes down.
For those camping near Caples Lake or staying at Kirkwood, consider bringing groceries up with you when traveling through South Lake Tahoe or other larger towns. Caples and Kirkwood both have primitive general stores, with limited offerings. Kirkwood Resort is very quiet in the summer with limited restaurants. The nearest grocery store is about 38 mins away in South Lake Tahoe.
There is Verizon service at the lake and wifi in the lodge. Other cell providers are available 1 mile west at Kirkwood and 3 miles east over Carson Pass.
Should you choose to partake... - Swimsuit, water wings, squirt guns - Mountain bike - Hiking apparel - Dancing shoes Other available activities are: - Boating - Fishing - Petting Dogs
For those staying at Caples, pets are not allowed in all cabins, and a pet deposit is required. Let Caroline and Gray know as soon as possible if you are staying at the resort and hoping to bring a pet. For those camping, you are welcome to bring your dog as long as it is well-behaved and on-leash. We ask that dogs be put away during the ceremony and reception.
Who knows! Tahoe/Kirkwood is in a high desert mountain climate and, as a result, has large temperature fluctuations throughout the day! The average high temperatures at Kirkwood in late June is 78 degrees and the average low is 44 degrees. Bring layers for the evening, especially if you plan on camping!
