The summer after they graduated high school, Corey was working at Wildwood Highlands and Caroline was enjoying her last few weeks of summer before she moved away to Slippery Rock University. Caroline went mini golfing at Wildwood Highlands with a few friends, including one of her best friends and her soon-to-be college roommate Domenica, who coincidentally grew up with and was Corey's coworker at the time. Domenica walked into the family entertainment facility ahead of Caroline and the others, greeted Corey behind the redemption counter and gave him a hug. When Domenica introduced Caroline to Corey, Corey was left completely speechless. To this day, Corey can describe exactly what Caroline was wearing, remembers every moment of how they first met and truly believes it was love at first sight. Caroline remembers how red her face felt and the butterflies in her stomach when she first saw Corey.

After Caroline and Corey first met, Domenica reached out to Caroline on Corey's birthday to ask if she'd send him a "Happy Birthday" text to brighten up his day. After doing just that, Corey smooth talked Caroline and would never let the conversation end. The two hung out one or two more times before Caroline left for college. Even when she was living on-campus, Corey made it a point to drive up every weekend to spend time with her. Shortly thereafter they began dating and started spending a lot of time together. Corey surprised Caroline on her birthday with an unexpected visit with her little sister and high school best friend. They spent Halloween together dressed as Grease's Danny Zuko and Sandy, watched movies, spent time at Corey's mom's house and shared their love for hockey by going to Penguin games together. After spending so much time together, though, Caroline knew she had personal growing to do and Corey had a lot of maturing to do, so they broke up just before Christmas 2014.

From 2016 - 2017, Caroline and Corey would reconnect every month or so, but timing was never on their side. Still, Corey always thought of Caroline as "the one that got away", and Corey was always in the back of Caroline's mind. In late November 2017, Corey asked to take Caroline out on a "proper" date. After dinner at a hibachi restaurant, Corey realized he had forgotten about his inline hockey game that night, so the "proper" date turned into a race back to his house to grab his equipment and another to the rink. Caroline didn't mind, and watched from the stands, not surprised by the turn of events.

At 12:00 am on New Year's Day 2018, Corey asked Caroline to be his girlfriend. The next two years were full of laughter and lots of time spent with family. The two celebrated milestones like Caroline's commencement, spent birthdays and holidays together, supported each other when they both got new jobs, grieved family losses together, grew closer as a couple and talked about their futures together. With a few (many) nudges from Caroline, Corey bought a ring, asked Caroline's entire family for their blessing, and planned the proposal within two weeks. On December 31, 2019, just one day shy of their two year anniversary, Corey got down on one knee and asked Caroline to marry him. The next chapter of their story is still being written.
