Rincon is the perfect place for experienced and beginner surfers alike, they can catch waves at beaches like Maria, Sandy, Tres Palmas, and Domes. Domes Beach hosts an annual international surfing competition as well as various beach festival through the year. Tres Palmas Marine Reserve is ideal for snorkeling
At the Sandy Beach area is Playa Tamboo. Beautiful beach where Tamboo Bar & Seaside Grill (Restaurant>Bar>Hotel) is located. Great ambiance day or night, as well as their music, food and bar. Open 12:00 AM to 10:00 PM
The Beach House, Rincon (Bar & Grill >Pub> Hotel) – a most go! You will feel like home… run by english speaking bartenders, perfect to get a bite, refreshment of preference, or both and go across the road to sit and enjoy the music. Great spot for watching a perfect sunset. Open until 7:00 AM to 2:00 a.m.
Punta Higuero Lighthouse is one of the major attractions in Rincon. The original brick structure was built in 1892 but had to be demolished and rebuild after the 1918 earthquake. The lighthouse is located in a park that offers benches and viewfinders can enjoy the panoramic sight of the sea. From there you can see Desecheo Island as well as Domes Beach. Stop by one of the kiosks in the area and grab some tasty food, cocktails or frozen drinks.
Rincon maybe a small town but big enough to satisfy your food cravings. From a nice restaurant to small spots/kiosks along the road perfect for quick bites “chinchorreo style” or even food trucks. But don’t leave the island without trying some of our favorites: Mofongo: Puerto Rican dish full of flavor made out of fried green plantains. The plantains are fried, mashed with salt, garlic, and oil in a wooden pilon. Medalla: Local premium light beer, lager style, recognized worldwide and original from my parents’ hometown of Mayaguez, P.R. less than 30 minutes from Rincon. Try it… I guarantee you will love it! Other delicatessens are: “surullitos” with island Mayo-Ketchup sauce (corn sticks), seafood “empanadillas”, “bolitas de pescado” (balls of fish) with island sauce, “bacalaitos” (cod fritters) and “alcapurrias” deep fried yuca or green plantains and malanga (tropical root) filled with ground beef or crab meat. Yummy!
