Kenny had recently moved back to PA from VA and I had recently moved to PA from NYC, so we were both looking for fun social activities to meet people. The Crowne Plaza in Wyomissing was a hot spot on Thursdays for their Latin night parties. The first time I saw Kenny, he was the only gringo there so when he came up to me and asked me to dance I was not expecting him to actually be a good dancer. After our dance, he further impressed me with his Spanish but we only had a brief conversation and went our separate ways. We would see each other every now and then and had some mutual friends but it was a few weeks before he actually asked me for my number and to go on a date.
Our first date was super unplanned as is a classic Kenny move. We initially went to the Crowne Plaza, the place where we met, and had no idea but very quickly found out that there was a Drag Queen show that night. So we took our date to a local bar where we had a few drinks and ended our not only first date but also first kiss and drag show! lol
While we were in Thailand I wanted to go to the annual sky lantern festival in Chiang Mai but we were heading back home the day before. Upon returning home, I looked to see if there were any lantern festivals close by and found one in the Poconos. I had seen videos and knew it was going to be magical and romantic so I was really hoping that would be when he'd propose. However, it took another 2 years and a different lantern festival for him to finally pop the question. At the second lantern festival, I once again hoped he would propose and even wrote it on my lantern as my wish to send up to the sky...again, lol! After, we lit my lantern and as I watched it float away I turn and see he's down on one knee- I knew immediately and my eyes filled with tears instantly. Of course I said yes! We were all filled with so much love and emotion even Benny was moved to tears. This will forever be a wonderful memory for all of us to look back on, very fondly! *Part of the lantern festival is when you receive your lantern, you're suppose to inscribe a wish on it before you send it up to the heavens. My wish was for him to propose, and shortly after sending up my lantern, he got down on one knee and my wish came true!
