Chris and Carolina met in December 2015. Chris, a Westchester native working as an actuary in Connecticut and spending his free time in the city – the tri-state trifecta. And Carolina, a recent transplant couch surfing the five boroughs, while simultaneously chasing a career in public relations and the best oysters on happy hour. The two brought together by the magic of December in the City. For many that means the holiday windows, winter villages and iconic Rockefeller tree. But for these two, and thousands of other twenty-somethings, it was donning their best Christmas character wear to stumble from bar-to-bar on the annual citywide SantaCon pub crawl. Carolina and her friend, Saige, had gotten an early start to the day before finding themselves crammed into Duke’s, a Murray Hill dive bar (RIP). While Saige set her sights on the next round, Carolina had her eyes on a nearby Santa. Not because he was cute (though that didn’t hurt), but because he looked familiar. With her photographic memory sparked and her interest peaked, her wing woman went for the win, abandoning the drinks and tapping the familiar stranger on the shoulder to make the college connection – We Are. Penn State! Having never crossed paths at a school of 45,000, it only took a sea of Santas in a city of 8 million for these two to meet. Their New York minute turned into two, which turned into last call. For Carolina it was Chris bribing the bouncer, thinking he was the DJ, to play Justin Bieber’s “Sorry.” For Chris it was Carolina ordering three slices of chicken bacon ranch pizza. For herself. Set to the sound of the city streets, Chris proved chivalry isn’t dead as he walked Carolina to the apartment she was currently crashing and kissed her good night…in his Santa suit. After a month of being inseparable, they became official. And, the rest, is history.
