How We Met

Good Sam Hospital

We first met at Good Samaritan Hospital. Which most of you know is now closed. He was working in the Environmental Department, and I was working as a Patient Care Tech in a Heart and Vascular Intensive Care Unit. He would come up to my unit to collect the trash around the same time each shift. We both worked the night shift. I remember some of my first thoughts towards him were that he was sweet and caring. I thought this because he would always greet the staff on the unit, and he would always offer to help me with taking out the linen, which was something that I did not particularly like to do. It should be noted that this was not an easy task, but he did that every time we worked together. I eventually asked that we exchange Facebook profiles, and we begin to chat via social media and eventually phone. We begin to take our lunch together at work and or meet after work for breakfast. Soon after he got the courage to ask me on a real date. "The rest is history," as they say.

The Proposal

How did he ask the question?

Those of you who know Hampton know that he is a simple man. He waited until one morning after we both had gotten off work. I believe it was like 8 or 9 a.m. on a Saturday morning. He was over at my house to spend the weekend with me. It was a few days shy of our fifth-year anniversary of dating. We entered my apartment and I remember going to the kitchen to cook us breakfast. He stayed in the bedroom which I thought was strange because he does not trust me in the kitchen. He is normally over my shoulder giving me his unsolicited advice. No seriously, he thinks of himself as Chef Ramsey's personal apprentice! So I went into the bedroom to check on him and found him down on one knee. He had the ring in his hand and he simply asked me, "Will you marry me?" I remembered being in shock for a few minutes. In my silence, I was wondering when did he have time to purchase the ring because we were always together. I became so emotional that I started to cry, realizing that this moment was real, and not some figment of my imagination. He then asked me again and I said yes!
