Mike and Carly met at an academic club through Carthage College. Their first date was watching movies and having takeout. Mike asked Carly to be his girlfriend in April 2014. Then, in April 2017, Mike took Carly on a vacation to Denver, Colorado. Mike surprised Carly with a proposal at the Red Rocks, where they celebrated afterwards at the Denver zoo.
