Traveling to the Vineyard

Martha's Vineyard is such a special place to us; we hope you appreciate it's unique charm as well! Traveling to the Vineyard can be done via plane or boat. Plane: Flights arrive in Vineyard Haven. Boat: The Steamship Authority runs ferries that shuttle to and from the Vineyard multiple times per day. The ferry schedule is available on the Steamship Authority website. You may make a reservation to take a car across on the ferry, or park in one of the many Falmouth parking lots and take a shuttle to the ferry terminal where you can walk on to the ferry. Click the link below for more detailed information regarding traveling to the island.

Traveling on the Vineyard

Unless you made reservations to take your car across on the ferry, you may find yourself arriving to the Vineyard on foot! Once on island, there are many ways to get around, including the bus, cabs, and Uber. You can also rent cars or bikes once on island. We advise against renting mopeds, although popular, they can be very dangerous! Click the link below for more detailed information regarding how to get around once on island.

Ferry Information

Car ferry travel If you are planning to bring your car to Martha’s Vineyard, you must have an advance reservation for the ferry. Book your reservation as early as possible online at www.steamshipauthority.com Walk-on ferry travel If you choose to leave your car on the mainland, you’ll have many more options with all the different passenger ferries. (Once you’re on-island, you can rent a car, ride a bike, or take the public bus with regular service through all six island towns.) Park in the Steamship Authority lot in Falmouth, or at ferry parking lots in New Bedford, Falmouth, and Hyannis, should you elect to take one of the passenger-only ferries. Be sure to allow time to get from the parking areas to the boat. In the summer months, you should allow at least 30 minutes before the ferry departure time to park, ride the shuttle to the ferry, purchase passenger tickets, and board the ferry. Traffic on busy weekends can cause further delays, so plan ahead and leave plenty of time.
