Mike was out with a buddy at Tequila Blue in Royal Oak. They were at the bar and ordered tequila shots, where they received the tequila, limes, but no salt. After waiting what seemed like an eternity, Alexis saw her chance and approached Mike to ask what he was waiting for. After Mike explained the situation, Alexis leaned over the bar and proceeded to get instant attention from the bartender. She said to Mike “all your need to do is bat your eyes a little” and suddenly, salt appeared! Now if you asked Alexis her side of the story, she would share how she and her friend Maela went to the bar to grab a drink. As Alexis turned around to say hello to Mike, Maela overheard that he was waiting on salt to pair with his shot. While ordering drinks for herself and Alexis, Maela also asked for salt. What a wingman!

The Proposal

After Mike and Alexis had been dating for about 2 years, Mike started attempting to propose. Every week or two, Mike would ask Alexis, “Will you marry me?” Alexis would respond, “Yes, but you have to ask for real.” As much as Mike liked to believe this meant they were engaged, Alexis would deny that fact. Fast forward to Spring of 2023 when they were planning a trip to Italy to join their friends Connor and Natalie as they eloped. Mike knew this would be the perfect opportunity to propose to Alexis, after the elopement of course. Prior to the trip, Mike secured the ring of her dreams and somehow managed to coordinate a photographer to capture the special moment all while being 12+ hours away and never having been to Italy before. What he didn’t realize about this trip was that he would need to secretly secure the ring while crossing multiple country’s boarders, all while traveling with Alexis and hoping she didn’t pick up on anything. Little did Mike know, Alexis starting picking up on Mikes “subtle” cues leading up to the trip. This worked out in her favor because she made sure her nails were done perfectly and packed a neutral outfit to wear that day. Throughout the trip, their friends would make jokes about Mike not planning to propose for a long time and Alexis played along like she had no idea what was coming in just a few days. On April 22nd, Mike and Alexis left their friends for a romantic day in Cinque Terre, a place that Alexis has always wanted to go. It was here that a visibly shaking Mike got down on one knee and asked Alexis to marry him “for real this time”. Luckily, she said yes and the rest was history!
