Our Story

Match Made on Tinder!

Both of us were fresh out of college in the Fall of 2018. Carlos had just moved from Miami to San Diego in August to take a job while Suzy had moved home after college and was looking for work. Carlos was hoping to meet people in his new city and Suzy knew she wasn't going to meet anyone staying at home, so we both found ourselves swiping on Tinder! We matched in early October, chatted back and forth for a couple of weeks, and went on our first date on October 19th, 2018. We got sushi at a nearby restaurant and talked for hours getting to know each other. We had the second date planned before the night was over and the rest is history... :)

Our Engagement!

In the months leading up to the proposal, Suzy and Carlos worked with a local jeweler to design the engagement ring. Once the design was finalized and the final ring was approved, it was time for Carlos to propose. We were going to Las Vegas for Suzy's birthday weekend and Carlos thought this would be the perfect weekend to propose (Suzy also thought this would be a good time for a proposal but Carlos wasn't showing any signs it was happening). Only a couple of days before we left, Suzy was wondering what we were going to do in Las Vegas during what appeared as an open block of time during a busy weekend. That's when Carlos said he had a surprise planned! Months earlier Carlos secretly booked a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon! When the day came, a shuttle picked us up from the hotel and took us to the helicopter port. Suzy figured out the surprise by the logo on the shuttle but she still didn't know where the helicopter would take us! Before the flight, Suzy contemplated if a proposal would occur during the flight, but ultimately didn't believe it because she didn't think Carlos would propose over the noisy helicopter. We loaded up in the helicopter and took off, the destination still unknown to Suzy. To her surprise, we started flying east away from the Strip heading to the Grand Canyon! After about 35 minutes of flying and enjoying the views, the pilot announced we would be landing in the Grand Canyon to take pictures and enjoy some snacks and champagne. Suzy had no idea this was part of the tour until the pilot made the announcement, so she was immediately thinking the proposal could actually be happening! We landed on a beautiful bluff overlooking the Colorado River. Carlos asked a man to take our picture on the edge of the bluff. After a few pictures, the man reached out to give Carlos' phone back but Carlos said "Actually, could you take a few more? I have a question to ask." Then Carlos got down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and proposed!! Through teary eyes, Suzy said yes and jumped into his arms! <3
