The currency in Mexico is Pesos. Most places do NOT accept the U.S dollar, however everywhere accepts all major credit cards. We recommend exchanging currency prior to arrival.
Please make sure you have an Uber or Beat Tesla account prior to your arrival to Mexico City. Both apps are the safest, most convenient, and affordable way to get around town. Many locals do not encourage use of taxis as they are less safe.
The best neighborhoods are Polanco, Reforma, La Roma (norte) , and Condesa. Each boasting a unique culture, Polanco is glamorous, Reforma is a great central location where all the hotels are located, La Roma is trendy/food epicenter, Condesa is hipster.
Here are some areas you want to avoid that are known for pickpocketing: Tepito, La Merced Market, Iztapalapa, Colonia del Valle, Ciudad Neza. While visiting Centro Histórico is a must, like any city center with a high tourist attraction, be extra vigilant.
Mexico City is 7,200 feet above sea level (for reference, Lake Tahoe is 6,200 feet above sea level). Although most are not affected by the elevation, be sure to hydrate and drink more water than you usually do.
