The first time we met was in one of our first-ever college classes, a business ethics course, with a very strange professor. We introduced ourselves on the first day and never spoke again for the rest of the quarter, but Andrew secretly admired Carlie from quietly sitting behind her. Andrew didn't perform quite well that quarter in school. That following February, by serendipity, Andrew and Carlie joined a business fraternity at the same time. Their relationship blossomed from there, and Carlie was thrilled to visit Andrew in Shanghai that summer, though was met with strong resistance from her parents. But Carlie persisted and purchased a 3-connecting stop, 25-hr flight to visit him. Post-graduation, Carlie and Andrew's love grew for each other on a group trip to Europe. From the mean streets of Morocco to the thermal baths of Budapest... well, the rest is history. Fast forward 5 years later, Andrew finally proposed to Carlie from where it first started in Santa Clara University, and now they're ecstatic to say "I do" in a few months.
How did Andrew first ask Carlie out? It was December 2018. Andrew and Carlie were strolling near Christmas in the Park in downtown San Jose after watching the Cinderella musical. Andrew was nervously preparing to pop the question. In a moment of anxiousness, he purchased two dirty dogs (IYKYK,) from a street vendor to ease the nerves. After Carlie took a huge bite into her hot dog, Andrew asked the question, figuring it was an appropriate and relaxed moment. With mustard staining her lips, Carlie ecstatically said yes and leapt with joy. Given that Andrew is not a fan of mustard, he proceeded to wipe off the mustard stain off Carlie's lips.
Carlie loves baking, cooking, and dancing ballet. Andrew loves playing poker, pickleball, and watching UFC Mixed Martial Arts cage fights. But alas, Andrew will watch Carlie perform and enjoy her cooking, while Carlie will join in on the occasional poker game and pickleball match.
During Carlie's second trip to China, Andrew took Carlie on an English-guided trip to the Great Wall. A father and his young daughter approached them and asked to take a photo. Feeling honored and flattered, Andrew stood into the frame next to Carlie with the young girl in the middle. The father asked Andrew to step out of the frame and to take the photo for them instead - the father, young girl, and Carlie - with Carlie in the middle. Without considering how Andrew felt, Carlie gleamed with pride as Andrew took their picture. To pour more salt on the wound, the father asked Andrew afterwards if he was Carlie's translator showing her around the Wall. Later on, Carlie danced with a tour group of mostly women in bright orange shirts, while Andrew was once again the delegated camera-man ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
