In true Chicago fashion, our wedding weekend happens to overlap with the Chicago Air & Water Show! It's a great show and draws big crowds. They'll be doing rehearsal Friday and will have the show from 10:30am-3pm on Saturday and Sunday. The lakefront area will be busier than usual—so please allow extra time for travel throughout the weekend.
One of our favorite things to do with visitors. Enjoy a guided cruise along the Chicago River (and Lake Michigan, if you choose) while learning about the city’s iconic skyline. There are a number of companies that offer this - we’ve had great experiences with both Wendella and the Chicago River Boat companies.
We’re White Sox fans, and they’ll be at home on Thursday, August 13th for anyone arriving early. The Cubs are also in town with games on the 14th, 15th, and 16th (times TBD). Whether you’re cheering with us for the Sox, checking out Wrigley Field, or simply going for a Chicago-style hot dog, catching a game is always a fun way to experience the city.
Chicago’s lakefront is Mikaela’s happy place. The Lakefront Trail runs for miles along Lake Michigan and is perfect for a walk, a run (Janine-approved (Mother of the Bride), as you can see!), or soaking in skyline and lake views. It’s especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset.
Many guests will be staying near Fulton Market—one of Chicago’s most exciting dining neighborhoods and home to several of our favorite spots. If you’re planning a dinner out, we recommend making reservations in advance, as many restaurants book up quickly on summer weekends. A few places we love: Green Street Smoked Meats – Our first date spot. Casual barbecue, great brisket, and a lively Fulton Market vibe. Pasta Veneta – Handmade pasta - we believe this one is really underrated The Publican – Cozy, hearty, and consistently delicious Girl & the Goat – A Chicago classic with bold, inventive dishes Beatrix – Great for breakfast, lunch, coffee, or a quick bite Bisous – A chic bar with great cocktails and a relaxed vibe Momotaro – High-end Japanese with incredible sushi and sake Izakaya at Momotaro – A more casual, underground counterpart with great drinks (we highly recommend the burger!)
An iconic Chicago stop, especially for first-time visitors. Easy to pair with a walk through the surrounding gardens.
The Art Institute of Chicago is one of the city’s most iconic museums and a great choice if you’re looking to explore more of Chicago between events.
