We met at a pickup softball game his ward Singles Ward was hosting. I (Angie) was still new to Utah and was trying to meet new people and make friends. I decided to go and Carl was one of the first to introduce himself to me. We talked and laughed a bit and I thought he was funny and and interesting. It’s important to note that since no one knew me or could remember my name, they all called me Dr. Pepper because of my shirt. But, he didn’t ask for my number so I just left that game as a “well, at least I’m trying to put myself out there.” Later he said one reason was because he had gotten another girl’s number. A couple of weeks later, we reconnected at a game night hosted by a mutual friend. Carl started to introduce himself to me but I stopped him and said that we had already met. He gave me a look and I said, “Dr. Pepper and pointed to my shirt.” He then said, “Hello, Dr. Pepper” flirtatiously. We played games and hit it off immediately. He made a joke about the friend zone and I told him I hadn’t done that to him and if he was interested, he needed “to shoot your shot, Bro.” He did and the rest is history.
