We first met at Riverland Community College in 2014, through Nathan’s sister, Ashley. She was working for a textbook company and I was a buyer in the bookstore. Ashley hired Nathan to run the buyback counter at the end of each semester, while he was earning his Radiography degree. Quips, laughs, and books were exchanged a couple of weeks a year, but we didn’t connect again once Nathan graduated. Fast forward to 2019, I entered the dating app game. “Bumble”-ing around, I messaged Nathan some sassy remark about his typo because I knew he was not, in fact, 4’11. Jabs, sarcastic remarks, and flirting followed. We knew there was chemistry after our first date but we weren’t ready to “get serious” quite yet. As spring turned to summer, we dated & messaged occasionally but the game changed once Nathan left for Wabedo. Apparently, secrets are spilled during this week-long getaway with family, and thankfully the Dvoraks are fantastic advice givers. After one perfectly timed snap from me Nathan reevaluated our whole relationship and from there our focus became each other.
22 months after our first overnight trip together, on an unseasonably warm sunny day, we went back to the same Airbnb in Alma, Wisconsin. We walked down memory lane, to the overlook bridge where he asked me to be his girlfriend almost 2 years ago. After taking a moment to watch the river, he asked if I wanted a promise of us together forever. I answered “Sure, someday that’d be nice.” Nathan nudged me along, only he wasn’t walking with me this time. When I turned around there he was, on one knee in the middle of the bridge, ring in hand. If any of you have seen me excited, you know there’s a type of wiggle dance I do. That happened, along with the reply “Is this for real?”. He assured me that this was real and eventually the word YES left my mouth. Some number of kisses, hugs, and a mini dance later, we were engaged!
