During their senior year at the University of Oregon, Bryan and Emily both found themselves in a journalism class that would forever change their lives in both their careers and relationships. When Emily caught Bryan looking her way a few times, he finally made his move during the break in class one day. He pulled out a container of veggies and ranch, asked her how her project was coming along, and offered her a carrot. Right away he made her laugh and she knew there was something different about him. A couple weeks later, Bryan invited Emily to watch him perform stand-up comedy (his first time ever!) and must not have bombed because after 6 years, 9 moves, 5 jobs, and 2 skydives, here they are ready to say "I do!"
Bryan organized a hot air balloon ride and told Emily they were going to record the experience for his podcast about trying new things to throw off any suspicions. They woke up at 4:30 am and drove to Newberg for a sunrise ride. Once they were in the air, Bryan kept asking the pilot, who was in on the surprise, if she would take a photo of them but she kept delaying, saying she was busy (fair enough!) Little did Bryan know, she had the perfect spot in mind. She floated the balloon onto the Willamette River, letting the basket float gently on the water. She finally said, "Now would be a good time for a photo," and right as Emily handed over her phone, Bryan dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him. Clearly, she said yes! When they got back to the launch site, both their immediate families were waiting to congratulate them, adding to the surprise. They enjoyed a beautiful day of wine tasting and stayed at a bed and breakfast in Carlton, just a few minutes away from what would become their wedding venue, Abbey Road Farm!
