How We Met

Sean and Caroline met when they were 15 years old in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. She's been summering in BBH since she was a baby; her grandmother was born there, father and siblings spent summers there, etc. Sean was born and raised in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. As luck had it at the ripe age of 15 Caroline started her first ever job in BBH. Amongst the people she worked with was a bunch of kids who lived in Boothbay year round. When they weren't stuffing lobster rolls or calling, "Order Up" over the sound system they'd be hanging out downtown. Enter, Sean. Sean was amongst this friend group. And while Sean and Caroline didn't work together, they met through friends hanging out at the small mall parking lot or walking around getting ice cream. Nothing ever happened between Sean and Caroline, but they remained friends for years to come ... August 2016: Caroline was living in Boston and experiencing some of the worst dating ever. After being stood up, ghosted, etc. she decided to write about her dating woes on her blog, The Trendy Trainer. Little did she know, Sean had read the post and it resonated with him. He was a Merchant Marine; traveling to Dubai, Bahrain and the Philippines on Naval ships. He was on his few months of leave and so he decided to message her on Facebook ... They decided to meet up -- completely platonically -- and grab drinks over Labor Day weekend in Boothbay. That night, over one glass of white wine and hours and hours of talking, they both realized this was something much more than just friends. They ended up hanging out all weekend and the rest is history! Phew! So 3 years, countless countries apart, new jobs and new apartments, here they are! Sean proposed to Caroline while they were out fishing by hooking the ring on the end of his grandfather's fishing pole. She turned around ready to cast, and he was down on one knee. Thankfully she said yes ... and the ring didn't end up in the briny deep!
