The Square, also known as Victorian Square, is in the heart of downtown Lexington and is home to amazing restaurants and beautiful shops! Cara absolutely loves visiting Victorian Square - She even picked tile for her and Pedro's home that resembles the gorgeous tile you see on the inside of Victorian Square!
Joseph-Beth is the most breathtaking bookstore you will ever visit. Joseph-Beth is one of Cara's favorite places in the world and it's a must-do whenever she is visiting Lexington. If you're a book lover or love unique gifts, pay Joseph-Beth a visit! For more shopping, take a short drive over to The Fayette Mall and The Summit at Fritz Farm!
The absolute best escape rooms you will ever play! Playing a game at Countdown is mandatory when Cara and Pedro visit Lexington! Their favorite games are Time Machine, Pharaoh's Curse, and Prison Break. The games have the most incredible sets - you would never guess the building used to be a furniture store!
Joe Bologna's aka Joe B's is an incredible Italian restaurant housed in a former synagogue with gorgeous stained-glass windows! They have nearly 12-inch breadsticks, delicious food, and most importantly - fountain Pepsi. Take a trip to Joe B's and maybe you'll be lucky enough to sit on the coveted "second floor" haha!
Malone's is a Lexington staple and a go-to spot for delicious food! Visit either the Hamburg location or the Landsdowne location! The Hamburg location is housed in the Hamburg Pavilion shopping area, which has every shop you can imagine! The Landsdowne (Tates Creek) location is right next to The Mad Potter (Lexington's original paint-your-own-pottery studio) and Old Kentucky Chocolates!
The Explorium is a hands-on learning experience for kids! The Explorium museum is recommended for kids 1 – 10 years of age, but even adults can have a blast. Cara and her sister, Ari, absolutely loved the Explorium when they were little - specifically the bubble room and the health exhibit! The museum is located in downtown Lexington, so be sure to explore The Square while you're there!
Explore the Arboretum and their gorgeous gardens and walking paths! The Arboretum is located near the University of Kentucky Campus and the UK Wildcats football stadium, Kroger Field.
Explore equine history, beautiful statues of champions like Man O' War, and the multiple barns on site! You can even take a horse-drawn trolley tour of the park.
If you're looking for a beautiful orchard, look no further than Boyd's. Their shop is full of tasty produce, artisan items, and best of all - their apple cider doughnuts! I would travel from Florida to Kentucky just for their doughnuts - they're that good! Boyd's also offers outdoor activities for kids and you can pick your own apples and pumpkins!
Kentucky and Bourbon are synonymous, so the Bourbon Trail is a must-do. Lexington sits on a unique limestone formation that filters and mineralizes the natural spring water that makes the Bourbon produced here so exceptional, so be sure to explore the bourbon bars in and around Lexington!
The Distillery District is a unique spot near downtown Lexington. Our favorite places in the district include Wise Bird Cider Co., Crank & Boom Ice Cream Lounge (delicious ice cream and boozy ice cream for the adults!), and Goodfellas Pizzeria. There is also an arcade+bar, The Burl, that is definitely worth visiting if you are into retro arcade games!
If you love chocolate and other sweets stop by Old Kentucky Chocolates! They have the best buckeyes, bourbon truffles, chocolate-covered potato chips, and best of all: chocolate covered grapes!
