Our Story

It's been a long time coming.

Nothing with this couple ever happened quickly. They met at a Halloween party in 2014 but did not start dating until a bit later. Dylan did everything he could think of to get closer to Cara including asking her to teach him sign language, going for hikes, and just generally hanging out. After months of hanging out, Dylan asked Cara via sign language if she would prefer them to be together or apart on March 22, 2015. The following day, he asked her verbally to be his girlfriend. This couple has tested and strengthened their relationship through long distance. Shortly after beginning to date, Cara spent a year working in North Carolina while Dylan was in school in Indiana. The distance was tough, but they survived. They were back together in Indiana for 8 months before Cara left for Washington to finish her degree with an internship. They were again doing long distance. During one of their conversations, Cara told Dylan that she was not coming back to Indiana. Dylan responded saying that she needed to start looking for a place for them to live out there. In spite of the distance, they were still committed to being together and move in together after 2 years of dating. They found great jobs through the Navy, made some great friends, and had a wonderful time exploring the Pacific Northwest! They added a cute, fluffy Komondor puppy to their little family who turned into a shaggy monster named Murphy. Life in Washington was pretty great! After 6 years of being together, Dylan decided it was time to propose. He wanted to do it during the family trip to Glacier and included her family in the planning. After the short hike to the picturesque Grinnell Lake with their roommates, Dylan dropped to a knee and said, "Cara, it's been a long time coming," as he held out the ring. Shortly after that, they decided it was time to move back to Indiana. Washington was a wonderful place, but they missed some things from Indiana like fall, storms, and being nearer to family. They bought a blue house which always reminds Cara of Grandma Theresa's house when she looks at it. Dylan and Cara love the life they have created in Indiana! Finally after 9 years of being together, Cara and Dylan are getting married!
