It would be cliché to say it was love at first sight and even more to say that it’s true. Robert and Haide met their first semester at Santa Ana College in 2012. They both had the same English class & she sat in the very front and Robert always came in late sitting in the very back. She had noticed him the first day, as did he notice her! As the semester was rolling by she started sitting closer to the back and they started exchanging hellos. She ran collegiate track and he played football; they’d lock eyes while seeing each other on the field when her practice was ending and his football practice was just starting, but neither initiated the conversation. One of the moments they’ll never forget was when she was on the pavement stretching after a workout eyeing for him to come out then as she was giving up on looking for him he came out with his cleats on, football helmet to his side and he smiled right at her. She finally got the courage to message him via Facebook in November. He admitted how he had noticed her and how he had been wanting to talk to her on their break that day during English but he was too nervous to say anything. She said the same. They exchanged numbers and had their first date at the yogurt land across the street from SAC where Robert says this was the moment he realized she was the one.
Robert & Haide have been engaged for three years. Throughout their relationship their familes and friends didnt belive theyd stay together. In the middle of their relationship they both moved to different parts of the country to finish up their education, Robert moved to South Dakota and Haide moved up north to Monterey County. During a persons early 20’s your personality starts to change and you can either grow apart or grow together. They grew together. They managed to get through each fight, each disagreement and the heartache of long distance. So much communication and trust was built throughtout the years that isnt taught by a book or a brouchure. Thats one thing they believe made them strong, they didnt rely on someone to teach then how to make distance work. They believed in each other and prayed for a strong relationship that would continue forever.
