March 2020. The world was on the brink of a pandemic and everyone knew it. A shutdown was imminent and St Patty’s Day was our last attempt for beer, bars, and babes. John, being the Irish Fitzgerald that he is was obviously going to partake with his friends in one last hurrah. He linked up with his pal Jeff Burns and his girlfriend (now wife) Katy Wingo who wanted to meet up with some of her fellow nurse friends at Four Courts in Arlington. As they walk in, Liz is the first to greet them with excitement. John, the first to walk in waves back in mirroring excitement, remembering Liz who had briefly crashed his Christmas party a few months back. While waving, Liz walks to him. He walks up to her excited to accept a hug of each other’s remembrance. But there was no remembrance from Liz. Katy happened to be right behind John who Liz was actually waving to and who she proceeded to hug. And that’s where this love began. Later in the day, Liz and John crossed paths again ordering drinks at the bar. This time John meant business and was determined to get recognized by his future hunny. The conversation led into very tasteful green shots while meeting Liz’s friends from WVU. They both enjoyed each others company so much that Liz invited John to come with her to a friend’s birthday party which was that same day in DC. John undoubtably said yes, but also brought a work colleague because.. you know.. buddy system. After fun and games there, they finished the night back at another Irish pub in Arlington (O’Sullivans) where they kissed on the dance floor before Liz needing to depart for an early trip to Florida in the morning. The following morning, they both realized neither had exchanged phone numbers to stay in touch. John asked Jeff what Liz’s number was while Liz simultaneously texted Katy to let her know if John asks for her number she can give it to him. The rest is history. To this day John still hasn’t forgiven Liz for not acknowledging him at Four Courts, but it’s safe to say their love has grown far passed the initial hug rejection.
