How We Met Mike and Shannon’s journey began at Stanford University, where they were introduced by a mutual friend even before they set foot on campus (Thanks Niki!). From the moment they met, they realized how much they had in common, including a love for hiking, soccer, and renewable energy. From Friends to More Initially, Shannon didn't want to date anyone as she was "doing her". But, after months of spending time together and Shannon realizing that she would watch the Star Wars movies just to hang out with Mike, they decided to make it official. A New Chapter in Seattle After graduating in summer 2018, Shannon moved to Seattle for a job at Microsoft, while Mike stayed behind to complete his PhD. The distance was challenging, but they made it work by traveling back and forth to see eachother on weekends. When the pandemic hit, Mike flew to Seattle to stay with Shannon to "ride it out" and ended up staying. They spent the first six months living in Shannon’s tiny studio apartment, often taking work calls from the closet—the only room with a door besides the bathroom! Building a Life Together Realizing they needed more space, they upgraded to a one-bedroom apartment in Seattle right near Lake Union, marveling at the luxury of having a bedroom with a door. In Seattle, they spent their weekends at breweries, biking around the city, and hanging out with amazing friends. In 2021, they moved to the Boston area for Mike’s job at MIT and bought a house together in Somerville. Finally, after 6 years together, Mike popped the question on a hike in Arizona where he arranged for Shannon's family to meet them at the trailhead to celebrate after. Our Adventures Mike and Shannon have been fortunate to travel the world together, visiting incredible places like New Zealand, Sweden, Italy, Chile, and many more. Their love for hiking has taken them to Half Dome in Yosemite, Multiple backpacking trips in the Cascade Mountain Range, and most recently to Patagonia. Cape Cod Mike and Shannon have been spending their summers in Cape Cod for years with Mike's parents at their vacation home in Brewster. The highlight of their time there includes biking on the rail trail, kayaking in the bay, going clamming, and of course the highly anticipated annual bike to the Beachcomber. Cape Cod has a special place in their hearts and there is no better destination to say their vows. They can't wait to share this extraordinary location with everyone and celebrate their love.
