Cam & I met in 2017 after we both relocated to Charleston, SC. Cam was chasing his dream of becoming an EQ in the NHL and I was a New Grad Nurse pursuing my dreams of working in Dermatology. Fate stepped in when our paths crossed unexpectedly. Our first date was at Two Blokes Brewing in Mount Pleasant, SC. It will forever be a special place to us. Fun fact: the first time I met his sister, Hayley, we took her to the same brewery! After my initial shock of the black CCM sandals (if you know, you know) - we spent about four hours just talking… If you know Cam, this is impressive. He talked about growing up in New England, the NE Patriots Dynasty, and more importantly his future goals. I chatted about growing up in Southeastern NC, my adorable newborn nephew, and how I had spent time visiting Charleston which had led me to moving there. We were both quite shocked when we realized how long we had been sitting there, simply talking. Needless to say, this was the beginning of what is now our favorite love story!
We both have a big love for travel. Cam mostly because his job takes him all over the continental US and now Canada. Myself because I grew up traveling with my mom, dad, grandparents and great grandparents. We value having time to explore because our world revolves around Hockey Season. For those of you who don’t know hockey season starts in September and ends anywhere from May to July dependent upon playoffs. Cam and I decided 5 years ago, we’d always make time to travel despite our crazy schedules. We have since vacationed every year the last week of July and it only made sense to celebrate our marriage the same week. Some of our Favorite places we have traveled together over the last 5 years are: Charleston, SC (our little city by the sea) Portland/Wells Beach, Maine (my first time meeting Cam’s mom and dad) Annual trip to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA to cheer on the NE Patriots! A road trip through The Florida Keys! (A must for anyone who loves long car rides and the ocean) Cruising through the Bahamas with our friends Joe and Liz! Annual Trips to Raleigh, NC to cheer on the Wolfpack for the season opening football game! (My Alma Mater) Stunning Banderas Bay located on the West Coast of Mexico where the enchanting Secrets Bahia Mita had just opened! (Cam Proposed here on the beach at sunrise) Harry Potter World in Universal Studios and Epcot International Food and Wine Festival in Beautiful Sunny Florida. Boston, MA Philadelphia, PA St Marco Island, FL Topsail Island, NC New York City, NY Asheville, NC
Every July we try to get a way for a few days before Hockey Season starts back. July 2021 was no different, it had been a year of uncertainty thanks to the COVID pandemic, new jobs, Moving through 3 states, and transitioning from the ECHL to NHL. We were tired and looking forward to some R&R! The trip down was smooth and Cam was excited because this was his first trip to Mexico! I figured the nerves were just because he doesn’t like to fly long distances. (I was wrong, it was because he was trying to smuggle my engagement ring across the Mexico Border). We had the opportunity to visit a brand new resort during their soft opening, thanks to some dear friends. The property was beautiful and very modern with several breath taking views of Banderas Bay and the surrounding mountains. Cam and I spent a few days relaxing by the pool and ocean. Some snorkeling, yoga, water aerobics/games. Enjoying cuisines from all over the world. Soaking up quality time, rest, & good sunshine. It truly was a remarkable week and he hadn’t even proposed yet! Towards the end of the week we decided to get up really early to go take pictures on the beach before the usual morning surfers took over the beautiful ocean. Cam was incredibly easy to convince to go take pictures, this should have been red flag number 1! We made our way down to the beach the next morning bright and early before breakfast. It was nice to have the beach to ourselves. The morning resort crew were working so hard to clear the beach for the day. We were walking a little and chatting admiring the calmness of the sea. Everything was calm except Cam’s heart rate, I could feel it pounding as I leaned into him. I honestly thought he was turning me around to take some pictures with his phone - however I was dumbfounded to find him on his knee, I didn’t even see the ring. All I saw was this photographer walking very hastily towards us, camera aimed directly at me. I was so confused. Until I realized what was happening. Cam was proposing at sun rise on a beach in Mexico. He had hired a photographer to catch the moment and it was completely perfect. Including the applause & cheers from the resort grounds crew! Although I don’t remember what he said or what I said. I recall asking him over breakfast if I had even said yes. He laughed and said absolutely you said yes. The rest is history.
