Poipu Bay Golf Course is Alex’s favorite and it’s right up the road from the Hyatt (approx. 5-10 min walk). It can be a bit expensive though so if you’re looking for a more budget friendly option, we recommend Kiahuna Golf Club (another beautiful course, just a bit more casual and 30 ish min walk or 5 min drive down the road). Please note that most golf reservations are available 30 days or so in advance. Fun facts: From 1994-2006, Poipu Bay hosted the annual PGA Grand Slam of Golf. Tiger Woods won 5 years in a row (7x total) but Phil Mickelson has the course record.
The Nāpali Coast is one of the most recognizable and beautiful coastlines in the world. All of the National Parks in Kauai require a permit or entrance fee - some which are required to obtain in advance and some which can be purchased upon entry. Depending which park you're looking to visit, these permits can book up months in advance. I would suggest booking your permits no less than 1-2 months since May is considered peak season. • Kalalau Trail (most hiking famous trail in the Napali Coast State Wilderness Park) • Open from 7 am to 7:45 pm daily, and permits are granted for specific entry times. • Permit must be purchased in advance. Books up early! • Permit = $35 per person (regardless of how many people are in the car). Link to purchase the permit: https://gohaena.com/
Entrance Fee = $5 per person (can be purchased upon entry) Parking Fee = Additional $10 per car (can be purchased upon entry) • Awa’awaphui Trail – 3.1 miles one way • Alakai Swamp Trail – 3.5 miles one way • Waipo’o Falls – 3.6 miles round trip, starting on Canyon Trail
For those looking to relax, we definitely encourage you to take advantage of the spa at the Grand Hyatt Kauai. Appointments do tend to fill up in advance, especially this time of year, so we suggest calling to book at least a few weeks in advance to get your first choice treatment and time.
Kauai Juice Co is our favorite place for freshly made juices, hot sauces and other delicious local snacks.
This restaurant is on-site at the Grand Hyatt and it's always our go-to for our arrival meal. If you're interested in fresh sushi and craft cocktails, this is a must! Please be advised that reservations at the Hyatt book up super quickly (especially for larger groups) so we recommend making your reservations at least a few weeks in advance for any on-site dining during your stay!
This restaurant is also on-site at the Grand Hyatt and it's overlooking a scenic koi pond in the middle of the Hyatt property. This is a slightly more expensive & upscale dining option but the food is delicious! Please be advised that reservations at the Hyatt book up super quickly (especially for larger groups) so we recommend making your reservations at least a few weeks in advance for any on-site dining during your stay!
Brennecke's beachfront restaurant is a 10 minute walk from the Grand Hyatt and it offers one of the best views in Poipu Beach. They offer a wide variety of menu options: seafood, pasta, steak, pupu platters and happy hour specials. At sunset, you can walk directly across the street to watch the sea turtles swim up on to Poipu Beach.
This restaurant is also a 10 min walk from the Grand Hyatt and Alex's favorite spot for loco moco (look it up if you haven't had it!). It's known for all sorts of Hawaiian specialties, including fresh poke bowls.
