If you are visiting the area, one of our families’s favorite activities is to take the boat out to San Juan Island. The most beautiful sunrises and such a cozy atmosphere. Very walkable between the various shops and food stops. In July, the whales are getting pretty active around the island, salmon fishing is opening, and crabbing is underway. Lots of fresh seafood! Our favorite restaurant is Downriggers, right by the ferry terminal in Friday Harbor, where the staples are crab tater tots, and a whiskey colada.
We won’t see you until the afternoon, so may we suggest our three favorite breakfast places: the Train Wreck, Chuckanut Manor and the Bluebird Café. The Train Wreck is here in Burlington (21+); it is infamous for their Bloody Mary, but there is always seasonal fruit for all the best drinks. Breakfast ends at 11:00 AM and there is not a bad choice on the menu. Chuckanut Manor is just Northwest of our home. The most beautiful view of the water and the islands. Surprisingly family friendly and indoor outdoor seating. They are the makers of the best crabcake ever, probably in the world...there is also this gooey cinnamon roll bake that makes Cinnabon look juvenile. The Bluebird Cafe is about 20 minutes south of Burlington, located right in downtown Arlington. Super family friendly, cozy, and the best blueberry pancakes you will ever have. Also, on summer Saturdays the farmers market is going on a block away—plus Arlington Hardware.
