How We Met

August, 2015

Heather and David met at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina (August of 2015). Heather had just started at the university, and David had recently transferred. They both were pursuing a degree in Media Arts and had a lot of the same classes (chances are, they passed by each other lots of times before officially meeting!) It wasn't until a few weeks in that the professor began randomly pairing students up for a group project. Everyone prefers to pick their own groups, of course, so ironically, the professor explained "Don't worry, you'll thank me later. This is how lots of people meet their best friends, husbands, wives, etc." So, that's how David and Heather met, along with a few others who would become close friends throughout their college years (hint, hint: one of them is the bridesman.) While Heather and David hung out a few times, their first date wasn't until the following year (unofficially, it was snacks and a movie in February. But more officially, it was in April, with dinner at Macaroni Grill!) They connected through sharing a lot of the same goofy humor and values. And then, there was Mr. Biggums to help woo Heather as well. The rest is history!

The Proposals

August, 2019

Heather proposed to David in July of 2019. They were talking through some things in their living room one day until Heather suddenly opened her hand to show him a wedding band she had picked out for him and asked if he wanted to get married. So then, to make it official, David planned a public proposal. He was inspired by the movie Patch Adams, and planned out all the details with Heather's side of the family. So, on a family lake trip in August, David scrambled around the house with Heather's family, blowing up 780 balloons, hiding them in closets, until the right moment came. One day, before dinner, Heather walked onto the porch where her family formed a line to David on one knee in a sea of balloons, his mom's picture by his side. (Half of his body disappeared in the balloons as he knelt down!) When Heather said yes, everyone rained balloons down on Heather and David in celebration!
