How We Met

In true “Katie and Bobby” fashion, we met at Cameron Prairie National Wildlife Refuge on April 28, 2011. I was seated across from him at a volunteer banquet and we quickly realized that we had the same major at McNeese State University (that I just so happened to switch to that week... fate, I tell you). During my first semester of wildlife related courses, I was in Dendrology with Bobby... and of course got stuck in the same lab group with him. I wasn’t interested in him romantically, but I was 100% interested in getting his old notes and tests (which he diligently drove from Little Chenier to McNeese everytime I needed ... thanks Bob, I owe you my degree!) After several years of friendship, a couple of Mardi Gras parades at OB’s, a VERY controversial duck hunt, a Darrell’s date (with Luc!), and a trip to the (VERY RAINY!!! SUPER FLOODED!!! NOT GOOD FOR CURLY HAIR OR IMPRESSING A GUY!!!) Bassmaster’s Classic in Orange, TX... things just (finally) fell into place for us March 2015. He went to west Texas the next week turkey hunting and I obsessively checked my phone and swooned over pictures of the turkey slayer in his head to toe camouflage. He sent flowers (TO MY PARENTS HOUSE!!! - I was so embarrased) for my birthday the next week and came to celebrate at Luna with my friends. He even showed up for Good Friday at Maw Maw’s two days later and “met the fam” and I went with him to Lafayette for Easter ... things moved way faster then either of us probably expected! We made this thing “official” April 25, 2015.

How He Asked

Three and a half years, and a lot of laughs and puppy kisses later ... if we had a quarter for every time someone asked when we were getting married, we could have paid for the wedding. We took a trip to New Braunfels for the weekend. We drove into San Antonio to enjoy the Christmas lights at the Riverwalk and do some site seeing. At lunch during margaritas, Bobby stretched and I noticed something round in his front chest pocket. When I asked what it was he said "oh a quarter." ... and I believed him. When he got on one knee four hours later, I realized it was NOT a quarter! Bobby asked a hostess at a restaurant on the Riverwalk to take our picture, and then said "okay just one more". I would really like to say he said something really sweet when down on one knee but all I remember is "sorry this took so long... " and that's when I started laughing like a maniac. I don't remember much after that until the hostess hollered "she said yes!" We were both super embarrassed when (it felt like) the entire Riverwalk was clapping for us. Bobby and I grabbed his phone from the hostess and took off to a bench by ourselves. I didn't cry until he said "do you recognize the band? It's Grandma's." ... and then I sobbed like a baby for a solid few minutes. We ducked into a bar so I could use the restroom to compose myself and celebrated over champagne before calling our parents and siblings, and facetiming Jade (okay I admit, I totally facetimed Jade before we called anyone else).

For all the days along the way
